Every house has a story. And so does 8203 Greenwood Avenue! Built in 1937 by a Navy captain who returned from WWI, the house has only had three owners who raised three families within. That captain did raise his family there while working as a ship builder in the Navy Yard. One day, while the current owners were going about their routine, there was a knock on the door. An older lady and her friend stood on the front porch reminiscing. When invited in that woman told the current owners about her father, her family, about her childhood at 8203 Greenwood, and about how the house has evolved since those days as well as how friendly and hospitable the neighborhood was. She also talked about the spirit of Takoma Park, how as soldiers returned from WWII there was a tremendous need for housing, and how Takoma Park grew as it accommodated many of those soldiers. For many of the reasons that Navy captain planted roots there, so did these sellers. They too had a family to raise. They too loved the hospitable nature of the neighborhood, and the block parties. One of the sellers used to walk from Greenwood, through Sligo Creek Park, to her job as a teacher. Since 1986 these sellers have treated 8203 Greenwood with as much love and care as the previous two owners. The water heater is two years old, the roof is of 2016, the boiler is serviced annually and the oil tank is filled and treated three times a year. Years ago, in the Takoma Park spirit of accommodating housing needs, they turned the upstairs into an apartment complete with a bedroom, a full kitchen, a full bath and a sizable living room that they rented out. That apartment has a separate entrance as well as its own electric meter. Because of the separate entrance and electric meter the property is deemed a multi-family.
